Gen Z Still Wants to Win. We Just Don’t Want It to Cost Us Our Life.

Gen Z doesn't seem to have given up on ambition. We still want the good job, the money, the growth and, apparently, even the corner office. But there's a catch. 96% say they're interested in leadership roles, yet only 9% call leadership their primary career goal. And when forced to choose between ambition and peace, 68% picked peace. So what's going on? Maybe it's not that Gen Z doesn't want to work hard. Maybe we just don't want the “work hard, lose your life” package that sometimes comes with it. Long hours, always being available, missing out on life just to climb another step on the career ladder... The question isn't “Do you want to be successful?” It's “What are you willing to give up for it?” Because wanting a good career and wanting a life outside of it aren't exactly opposites. Maybe Gen Z isn't lowering its ambition. Maybe we're just changing the terms. 🫠
