61% of Delhi-NCR Students Chose Salary Over Passion — Here's the Real Reason

It's 11pm in a Greater Noida PG. Your roommate is doom-scrolling LinkedIn, two tabs open — one for a dream design internship that pays nothing, one for an SDE role that pays rent for the next two years. Classic dilemma, no cap.

So we put it on Boomm and asked the eternal question: kaam pasand hai ya salary? Do you chase work you actually love, ya the fat paycheck that ends the money math at month-end? The split was lowkey telling — 61% picked salary, leaving just 39% riding for passion.

Why Delhi-NCR students are picking the paycheck

Ngl, this tracks. When your metro card, PG rent, Zomato orders and that one overpriced Hauz Khas cafe outing all need funding, "follow your passion" starts sounding delulu. For a lot of students between Faridabad and Gurgaon, salary isn't greed — it's survival plus a little breathing room.

One comment summed up the whole mood in four words:

"sde hu toh salary"

Fr though — when your skill already pays well, the choice basically makes itself. Passion feels less risky when the bank balance isn't crying.

The salary vs passion debate isn't black and white

Here's the thing most of us figure out by third year: it's not either-or forever. The 39% picking passion aren't wrong — they're just betting on a longer game. And plenty of the salary crowd plan to circle back to the fun stuff once the EMIs chill.

Money buys options. Passion gives meaning. Most Delhi-NCR students are quietly trying to stack both, just in a smart order.

So tell us honestly — agar abhi choose karna ho, kaam pasand ya salary? Where do you land?
